PSHPP Tarnita-Lapustesti is located in the western region of Romania, at about 30 km distance of Cluj Napoca municipality,at relatively equal distances from 2 nuclear power plants, Cernavoda in Romania and Pecs inHungary.

The new PSHPP Tarnita-Lapustesti will be achieved on the Somesul Cald river valley, in the left bank adjacent to the current Tarnitastorage, near Lapustesti locality, Rasca, Capusu Mare, Marisel and Gilau communes, which includ Dangaul Mare, Dealu Mare, Lapustesti, Somesul Cald localities.
Tarnita development and plant is commissioned since 1974 and belongs to the gravitational hydroelectric development scheme of Somesul Cald river, scheme consists of four reservoirs (Fantanele Tarniţa Gilău Floresti) and eight hydroelectric plants (Mariselu, Tarniţa Warm Somes, Gilău I Gilău II Floresti Floresti I and II, Cluj I) with a total installed power of 300 MW operated by Hidroelectrica S.A
