1. Why is Tarnita-Lapustesti hydro power plant necessary?

Considering the limited resources of primary energy and the need of obtaining a cheap energy that does not produce greenhouse gas, the hydro potential would constitute a sustainable alternative for the development of the energy sector in Romania.

In the context of a continuous growing portfolio of undispatchable production, requiring the installation of additional balancing capacities that will be paid for ancillary services, capacity, and balancing markets, the project becomes crucial.

Tarnita-Lapustesti PSHPP would be a strategic supplier of energy services/ ancillary services in the North-West of Romania, an area with a shortage of electricity generation. The hydropower plant would become an important provider of ancillary services in Romania and possibly in some neighboring countries.

2. What investments are necessary for the completion of this project?

The construction of the Tarnita hydro power plant needs an investment around Eur 1 billion (without VAT).

The counseling team coordinated by Deloitte Counseling is working to define the project’s financing scheme.

Tarnita-Lapustesti PSHPP objective will be carried out by a company established for this purpose, through contributions to the social capital and other forms of financial participation.

The Lapustesti community, part of the Rasca village, situated on the left-shore plateau of Somesul Cald river is a high-altitude grazing area, used in common.

8. How many jobs will be created?

Tarnita-Lapustesti PSHPP construction will be carried out in 5-7, creating over 4000 jobs.
